I recently saw this segment on the Early Show: It is a unabashed endorsement for the practice of Yoga in schools. The segment shows the apparent virtues of this practice: higher test scores, better behavior, and a general sense of well-being from the students. The students claim to love it, and it is lauded by superintendents and non-profits, whose goal is to incorporate Yoga into school curriculum. I am bringing all of this up only as a matter of principle for this one reason: Yoga is prayer. It is true, Yoga is not conventional western or familiar in its form - but make no mistake, it is prayer. The word "Yoga" itself is a Sanskrit word meaning "yoke", from a root, "yuj", which means to "join, unite or attach". Hence the inherent spiritual goal is a joining, a uniting or attachment to the divine. Now, there are various disciplines and schools of Yoga, but all of their practice is for spiritual attainment or unity to Brahman with Atma...

Most everyone has probably heard of the horrific massacre that occurred in Norway recently, the evil of which I can hardly comprehend. I cannot adequately express my sorrow for the individuals and their families who were victims of this holocaust. But perhaps you have noticed how the media has tried to characterize this man both politically and religiously. Every article I have read has classified him as a "fundamentalist Christian." Of this, I am almost equally astonished as the event itself simply because the media does not seem to know the definition of the word "fundamentalist." A fundamentalist is (quoting from the dictionary here) "A usually religious movement or point of view characterized by a return to fundamental principles, and by rigid adherence to those principles." As a young christian in 2005, in the days of yore before the Facebook boom, I wrote an epistle to 35 churches in the Willimantic, CT area. Someone recently requested a copy, and as I read it over, I got inspired so I decided to share it for everyone. It may still be applicable in some way. In the end, it was not well received. It was mostly taken in silence, and my pastor got a few confused comments on who I may be. The idea of this epistle may have been naive, but I think the Lord uses this sort of brashness to get things done sometimes. You decide. I went to a fabulous conference last month which focused on the training, demonstration and impartation of spiritual gifts sponsored by Holy Fire Ministries . This meeting was a representation of true spirituality with the Holy Spirit working among us to bring personal revival and stretching our faith. Nothing occurred there that I questioned or doubted as a legitimate manifestation of the Spirit. I loved it, and encourage anyone to partner with my friend and mentor Br. While I was there, I was able to talk with many people in my down time, many of whom had a very different spiritual background to myself. There is much fervor in the world, especially the media, over the rumor of Doomsday tomorrow, May 21st. All the attention has been earned by a christian radio preacher, Harold Camping, with a bygone 1994 Doomsday prediction already under his belt. Though the man and his followers seem sincere, it is an unfortunate fact that his shenanigans are bringing undue and undeserved mockery to the name of Christ and Christians. It is no new thing. Imagine the shame of the Millerite groups (out of which sprung the 7th day Adventists and other Adventist groups), when William Miller first predicted the end in 1843 and when proved wrong, revised to 1844. Imagine having sold all your goods, and meeting on a great hill expecting Christ to come with the sunrise. It rises.. 6am.... 7am... 9am... 10am... High Noon... Nothing.
